Changes in 2012
I looked (more like pored) over at job listings in new areas, realized the potential for me to land a job there, contemplated the possibilities, started thinking to myself this is all part of “character building” and I’ll be a better person for it, and all the while wondered what’s in store for the next chapter in my life. 2011 was quite a fucking trip in itself.
But you know, it shouldn’t take a new year to create new changes; it’s a cop-out in most cases. Time is a construct that we use to keep ourselves in check. We follow the Gregorian calendar but there are other ways to measure “years”, like with the Chinese New Year or the Mayan calendar (2012 y’all we’re all going to die, btw). I don’t think it’s necessary to adhere to calendar guidelines. I’d rather go by milestones in life to measure the changes. Sure, I’m still down to celebrate birthdays, holidays, and the like, but if there’s some things in life that need to be changed (be it fitness-wise or job-wise), a new year shouldn’t be the defining factor. If you want to lose weight, why wait for a couple weeks to go to the gym? Why not start now? If you want to start being more productive in your work, why not do it now? If you really want to change things, why not start the moment you realize it? Hence the reason why I think New Year’s resolutions are bullshit and are an excuse for people to procrastinate in making changes with their life. The immediacy and commitment to a change should be the most telling thing, not a person stating in the beginning that they’ll do x, y, and z but won’t follow through with it in two weeks after the new year has begun.
Alright, I guess I meant for the title to say “Changes RIGHT NOW”. MY BAD.
